DETAILS
Epic Armoury’s Churburg Complete Set is a simple low-fantasy set of armour that includes a breastplate, backplate, chainskirt & shoulder guards. These steel riveted pieces are made of 1 mm thick mild steel and top-grain leather straps and fittings, built to withstand the abuse of a LARP or reenactment with regular leather and metal armour care.
Churburg armour
The Churburg Armour is embellished with a wide ‘V’ on the front to deflect attacks away from the head. This armour protects most of the torso, including the ribs and lower back. Secure this armour with the help of a friend, tightening the leather straps across the back and over the shoulders. Thanks to the crossed leather strap design, this armour can better fit your size while also dispersing the armour’s weight. It is fully usable with Epic Armoury’s other metal work products, giving you the freedom to customize your character’s costume.
Churburg shoulders
The Churburg Shoulders are a set of two simple spaulders. The spaulders feature one solid metal plate--or lame--featuring a beveled bottom to turn away strikes from the arm. The spaulders are fastened with leather straps around the biceps and at the shoulder, attaching to your gambeson.
HISTORY
- Loosely based on the Churburg #13 breastplate, a historically famous armour set from the 14th century.
- Historically inspired by what was considered a “transitional” breastplate, meant to be worn with a lot of chainmail.
- Our version is much bigger than the original, protecting the entire chest.
QUALITY
- Made from 1mm/19 gauge thick mild steel.
- Rolled edges with no sharp edges.
- Straps and fittings made from top-grain leather.
- Hand made, welded pieces for maximum durability.
Natural leather products are very durable, but require regular maintenance with leather care products to stay flexible and to increase
Cleaning
It is best to start cleaning leather from the most delicate measures possible. Therefore, use a damp cloth with a little soap. If this is not enough - use a hard brush to remove dirt. Remove the soap with a separate damp cloth to wipe away any soap residue, and then use a dry cloth to wipe away the remaining water from the leather. Let it dry completely before the next maintenance step.
Conditioning
Always keep the leather maintenance after cleaning, because the soap will remove some of its natural oils. Apply mink oil, olive oil or professional lanolin-based fats to clean leather using a clean cloth, gently rubbing a small amount of fat with circular movements. Wait for the fat to soak in the leather, then use a clean cloth to clog the residue. For maintenance, you can also use beeswax by heating it to a liquid state and applying it to the leather. Remember that the leather so preserved will be harder and significantly darken what sometimes is the desired effect.
